Aside from the capacity bump, the 500GB (2 platters, 250GB each) Scorpio Black shares the spec sheet with the other drives in the family almost identically. The 500GB drive sips a touch more power (1.15A peak vs 1.1A), but that’s the most significant change.
Other features include a SATA 3Gb/s interface and five year warranty.
The move to 500GB is the first update to the Scorpio Black line since the launch a little over two years ago. To this point, the Scorpio Black 320GB model is the fastest standard notebook hard drive we’ve seen in our labs. With the increase in platter density in the 500GB, we’re expecting a performance boost. Our review unit is in house now undergoing testing.
