Update: Western Digital My Book Live Duo Review
Western Digital has announced the My Book Live Duo, a 2-bay personal cloud storage device that expands on WD’s current single-bay My Book Live. The Duo combines the benefits of shared storage and remote access with double-safe backup or increased capacity of a dual-drive system using RAID. The Duo has an 800 MHz CPU and provides automatic backup for Windows users via included WD SmartWare software, while Mac users can use Apple Time Machine.
My Book Live Duo’s double-safe backup constantly maintains a second copy of all your files for real-time data backup in mirrored mode (RAID 1). Half the capacity is used to store users’ data and half is used for a second copy. If one drive fails, all of your data is protected because everything is duplicated on the other drive. Alternatively, users can go with the Duo’s spanning mode, which combines both drives into one large volume acting as one drive for maximum storage capacity.
WD’s My Book Live Duo’s built-in media server can stream movies, photos, and music to any DLNA-certified multimedia device including the WD TV Live streaming media player, Blu-ray players, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and smart TVs. Customers can also stream to their tablet or smartphone directly from My Book Live Duo using the WD 2go mobile application which is available through iTunes and the Android Marketplace.
Pricing and Availability
My Book Live Duo is currently available in 4TB and 6TB capacities and is priced at $399.99 USD and $499.99 USD respectively.
