The apps are available from both Apple’s App Store and the Android Market and interface with WD’s My Book Live external hard drive. With the updated apps, now not only storing all of your media and personal files is easy, but accessing them from anywhere is simple as well. We were given a demo of the new apps; setup and usability couldn’t be easier. There aren’t a bunch of network settings that have to be adjusted, getting up and running with a My Book Live and the app is streamlined and consumer-friendly. During the demo we were streaming everything from presentations to movies and music on an iPad connected to a My Book Live 3000 miles away, with no complications.

The WD 2go app is free and supports mobile access to most office, video and music files types. The WD 2go Pro app is $2.99 and adds several advanced features like:

• Clipping: Users can clip files, photos, songs, videos or folders to download a copy from the My Book Live drive to a mobile device, enabling subsequent access even without an Internet connection.
• Automatic sync: New or modified files added to the My Book Live automatically sync to mobile devices.
• Content sharing: The WD 2go Pro app allows users to email files, share files as a link, print and open files with third party apps.
• Additional security: Users can leverage an additional layer of security by locking mobile access to the My Book Live drive with a 4-digit pass code.

Availability

The second generation WD apps are available now through Android Market and Apple’s App Store. My Book Live drives are available in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB capacities for and MSRP of $159.99, $199.99 and $249.99 respectively.
