Caitlin Gordon joins Brian on this podcast to talk all things Dell EMC PowerStore with a little Brady/Gronk mixed in. PowerStore is an entirely new platform for Dell EMC that is intended to take over as the lead product in the all-flash midmarket space. The clean sheet design allowed Dell EMC to take the best of their existing lines like XtremIO and SC Storage to create a platform that is actually quite unique. PowerStore scales both up and out, and has the ability to run apps natively on the box, which adds a little flair of HCI to the equation.

With PowerStore Dell EMC also has quite a bit of smart technology built in, like ML that auto discovers appliances and scales appropriately with little to no user intervention. While Dell wants to talk more about use cases and business needs than performance, PowerStore also supports dual-ported Intel Optane SSDs, for those who need support for more intensive workloads.
Caitlin also helps clarify the current state of the Dell EMC storage portfolio on the podcast, clearing up that XtremIO and SC haven’t been end-of-lifed. That said, we’d posit that it’s unlikely that Dell EMC will release any new hardware for these platforms. Unity XT stays on and will target use cases between PowerStore and PowerVault (ME4 Review), with PowerMax sitting atop the portfolio of storage arrays. Of course Isilon carries on as well for unstructured data.
