We don’t review a lot of SurgeX products, though we certainly leverage the technology as much as we possibly can. As such, the Axess Elite adds a ton of versatility to market as it allows users to monitor, control and manage power distribution settings and control individual outlets in addition to observing power usage. It offers SurgeX’s pedigree in protection, comprehensive energy management, and two-way communication with all IP-enabled products on the network. The Axess Elite also has significant programming capabilities, giving users the ability to set up both sequencing and scheduling.
SurgeX has designed the system so that up to 16 Axess Elites maximum can be linked together and controlled from a single web interface. The master system can communicate with users and receive status information pertaining to the other Axess Elites in the daisy chain. In addition, you can control power on an outlet level, turn outlets on and off, and control expansion units from the master unit. You can also collect and internally log temperature, voltage measurements, and current draw measurements. SurgeX also indicates that it has zero let through to the neutral or ground, which is the spike voltage that causes the surge protector to divert unwanted energy from the protected line.

Design and build
SurgeX Axess Elite has a very solid build and is comprised of a sleek, black metal chassis. The system weighs a substantial 12 pounds, which allows it to take any bumps and bruises that may occur with any falls, moving, or installation. The SurgeX logo and slogan is located on the left side of the front panel while the Axess Elite and product number is located on the right.
The front panel is host to numerous LEDS indicators for the eight outlets located on the back. This includes the On/Off status (green), two Auxiliary Relay Latch/Unlatched status (green), Shutdown status (amber) and AC mains power (red) LEDs.
On the rear panel of the SurgeX Axess Elite are the input power cord, circuit breaker (20A with our model), 8 NEMA 5-15 outlets, Serial connection (DCE, 9 pin D-subminiature), Network connection (RJ-45), temperature sensor input, Contact closure input, Auxiliary Relay A/B output connections, and a recessed Reset button.
Usability
With Axess Elite web-based management tool, you can customize, synthesize, and monitor individual outlets and power settings from anywhere that has an internet connection. With it, users can manage control expansion units via the master unit as well as monitor the system's energy consumption by each connected device. Technicians can also perform a remote hard reboot when equipment lock up or schedule automatic triggers to AutoPing devices. This certainly helps to reduce the inherent time and costs that comes with sending a technician onsite for simple issues such as these. With this interface, you can also gather rack temperature, voltage, and current draw measurements and create a history log file for advanced monitoring.
The Device Setup section allows users to specify the basic device parameters including the Device name, power up delay time, reboot time, and temperature display. A reboot needs to be performed after saving any change, as the page will show a “Reboot Required” button at the bottom of the section.
Outlets and Aux Relays can be turned on, of, rebooted (16 Axess units maximum, 1 master and 15 expansions). Additionally, to have the rights to control the outlets of the expansion units, SurgeX indicates that an identical version of the user’s name and password must be programmed into each expansion Axess Elite. When this is set up, they can be remotely managed by the user.
The Device View page displays information and the status for the whole unit at the top left as well as individual outlets and their basic control. Users can refresh the status information by simply clicking the Refresh button. Each outlet has their name, present state, current draw, power draw and energy usage neatly displayed in rows.
Mobile page links are located at the bottom left, just below the Links section. Contact input’s status is also shown.
The Global View page provides users with the current outlet statuses for both the Axess Elite and its expansion units. Up to 15 expansions units can be set up on the Links Setup page.

The SurgeX Axess Elite is a very efficient and well-functioning AC power conditioner all the while leveraging a web-based management system that offers advanced energy management and fantastic surge protection. SurgeX has been the frontrunner is power conditioning and surge protection technology, and it certainly shows with Axess Elite and its easy-to-use, yet feature-rich interface. The single rack-space 120V 20 amp AC power allows users to monitor, control and manage power distribution settings and control individual outlets in addition to observing power usage. The interface itself works very well and is pretty easy to use. Since it is a web-based application, it can be used remotely from anywhere, which eliminates the need to sending a technician on site. This helps to reduce a significant amount of costs.
