This larger sensor ensures more precise, detailed footage, even in challenging lighting conditions. The release also introduces the G6 Turret, another 4K 8MP device, completing a lineup that integrates advanced AI detections like face recognition and license plate detection into more affordable models. This builds on the G5 Bullet, G4 Instant, and G5 Turret Ultra options we saw previously. With EdgeAI capabilities enhancing video retrieval and person re-identification, the G6 series isn’t just about capturing footage and more intelligent, efficient surveillance.

Built for outdoor reliability, the G6 Bullet features an IP66 weatherproof rating, protecting against dust and heavy rain. It is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, enhancing its AI-driven detection and image processing capabilities.

It supports wall, ceiling, and pole mounting with included hardware for installation flexibility, while optional accessories like a junction box and angled base provide additional mounting versatility.

The G6 Bullet is equipped with a 1/1.8″ 8MP sensor, delivering 4K resolution, a significant upgrade over the G5 Bullet’s 5MP (2K) resolution. It also includes built-in IR LED illumination with an IR cut filter, providing up to 9 meters (30 feet) of night vision for low-light environments. Additionally, like the Instant, it is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, and it has a built-in microphone for audio recording, which can be disabled if needed.

Beyond its hardware improvements, the G6 Bullet introduces AI-powered features not found in the G5 Bullet. It supports face recognition, license plate recognition, and standard smart detections for people, vehicles, and animals, making it a powerful upgrade for advanced surveillance needs.

UniFi Protect Overview of New G6 Cameras

On the UniFi UDM Pro Max, we are running Protect version 5.2.62 (official release) to demo the G6 Series.

As mentioned, we received the Ubiquiti G6 Instant and G6 Bullet and set them up in the lab for a quick overview. The image below shows these units in Protect > UniFi Devices, displaying their recording modes and resolutions compared to other UniFi cameras recently covered in our Ubiquiti AI Series and G5 Series reviews.

The G6 Instant is the first camera we have up. We positioned both units in the same corner of the lab, oriented towards the racks, to assess the detail and clarity provided by the new Ubiquiti G6 cameras. Right off the bat, the G6 Instant, the most affordable of the cameras at $179, delivers a solid picture and impressive clarity with its 4K 8MP resolution. Its portable design and wireless connectivity help reduce the amount of cabling needed, aside from USB-C power, making it easy to mount on a shelf, wall, or other convenient locations.

It’s worth noting that having a solid AP placement in the area where this camera will be installed is key to ensuring optimal performance with the G6 Instant.

Next, the G6 Bullet also delivers a clear and crisp view of the lab. Both cameras feature the same H: 109.9°, V: 56.7°, D: 134.1° fixed focal length lenses and 4K (8MP) resolution, making it difficult to distinguish any significant differences in image quality or width between them unless the G6 Instant experiences an unstable wireless connection. Priced at $199, the G6 Bullet offers a more robust design while maintaining the same high-resolution performance. It is a solid choice for those looking for a hardwired, static installation that can also withstand harsher environments.

Conclusion

The Ubiquiti G6 series marks a significant leap forward in surveillance technology, bringing 4K resolution, enhanced low-light performance, and AI-driven analytics to more accessible models. With the introduction of the G6 Bullet, G6 Instant, and G6 Turret without the crazy price tag, Ubiquiti continues to push the boundaries of smart security. It integrates advanced features like face and license plate recognition into more compact, affordable, high-performance devices.

The G6 Instant is a versatile, wireless option for indoor and semi-outdoor applications. At the same time, the G6 Bullet, with its rugged design and IP66 weatherproof rating, is built to endure harsher environments. Both cameras leverage enhanced AI processing to enhance event detection and streamline video retrieval, offering a more intelligent and more efficient surveillance experience.

By refining AI capabilities and boosting image quality across its lineup, Ubiquiti has created a well-rounded upgrade over the G5 series. Whether for home security, business monitoring, or large-scale deployments, the G6 series provides a compelling blend of performance, reliability, and affordability.
